Piazza del Popolo is the main square in Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. It is the beating heart of the city and the seat of the main palaces of power, including the town hall and the prefecture. The square is also an important meeting and gathering place for all citizens. The square was built in the 13th century by the Da Polenta family, who ruled Ravenna at the time. It was originally called "Piazza del Comune", but it was renamed "Piazza del Popolo" in 1860, after the unification of Italy.
